Installer will work with wifi too. Another way to install apps is to use "iPhone pc suite", which you will have to use Google to search as I can't post links here.

Try this silent DFU mode restore: open iTunes, plug in the switched-on iPhone, then hold down both the Home and Sleep buttons for 7 seconds, then the screen should switch off and you should hold down for another 2 seconds, then let go of just the Sleep button and hold the Home button for about 10 seconds, or until iTunes recognises it in recovery mode. Now restore by manually selecting the firmware.
